In many of the classes I have had in college, we are taught to choose a "lens" with which to view the world, and report on what it is that can be seen through that particular lens. We consider one facet to the "gem" of truth, but other facets, and especially any holistic consideration for the gem are neglected. You see this narrow world view coming from many others' statements of opinion that they regard as "fact", and from those who would try to persuade others into leaning hard in one direction, so to steer popular opinion, and the behaviors that ensue, toward some agenda that is, perhaps for it's unilateral trend, an extreme one.
So often I run across all or nothing thinking, and it frustrates me to no end. So very little about reality can be understood or defended in terms of black and white, all or nothing, one way or the other only. So for awhile I've been pensive, in a search to establish some new framework for measuring truths, understanding situations, and just generally navigating the world we live in.
The left-right dichotomy is the easiest accessible framework for our thinking It's also often the worst, and it's starting to feel like a trap. So, I've decided to make an effort to figure out how to change my thought process to stop framing things in dualities.
To understand enough to make important decisions that are rational, and arguably the best decisions, the focus must become less about the right versus the left and more about "centralized/authoritarian" versus distributed and collaborative, which can create a more healthy thought process toward making wise decisions, not skewed or perverted by self interests that are counterproductive in society to sustain health and well being of people, other species, and habitable, healthy environments.
More on this later...
